Flory Announces Two Volleyball Early Signees

BATON ROUGE — LSU volleyball head coach Fran Flory announced on Wednesday that LSU has signed two players for the 2009 season.

LSU, which is competing for its fourth-straight Southeastern Conference Western Division title, received a national letter of intent from Madie Jones of Plano West Senior High School in Plano, Texas, and Allyson Judkins from Jersey Village High School in Houston, Texas.

“This is an outstanding class,” Flory said. “Both Madie and Allyson will have the chance to contribute immediately. They have both competed and succeeded on the national level, and we can’t wait for them to bring that level of experience and competitiveness into our program.”

A 6-2 outside hitter, Jones has led Plano West to the regional finals in the playoffs as her team won the regional quarterfinal match Tuesday night. Jones also led her club team, Dallas Skyline, to a second-place finish in the USA Volleyball Junior National Championships in 2008. For her performance in the tournament, Jones was named an All-American at the USAV Junior Nationals. Jones was also named to the 2008 US Junior A2 Program.

“Madie is an outstanding student-athlete,” Flory said. “She is a true difference maker. Her athleticism and her high level of experience make her one of the top prospects nationally in the class of 2009.  We are excited she has decided to be a Tiger.”

Jones is listed in PrepVolleyball.com’s Senior Aces Top 100 and is also a member of the PrepVolleyball.com Class of 2009 Top 50 recruits. Jones is the daughter of Jon and Rebecca Jones.

A 6-1 middle blocker, Judkins played club ball with Texas Elite and helped lead the team to a third-place finish in the American Division at the USAV Junior Nationals in 2008.

“Allyson is a tremendous athlete,” Flory said. “Her ability to play above the net in addition to handle the ball will give her an opportunity to be an immediate contributor. We’re excited about the future of our program with her tremendous growth potential.”

Like Jones, Judkins is listed as one of PrepVolleyball.com’s Class of 2009 Top 50 recruits. Judkins is the daughter of Gregory and Cynthia Judkins.
