Volleyball’s Williams Named SEC Freshman of the Week

BATON ROUGE — Michele Williams of the LSU volleyball team was named Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week by the conference office on Monday for her outstanding performances against Alabama and Mississippi State last weekend.

Williams led the team in kills in both matches as she recorded 11 against Alabama on Nov. 7 and 12 versus Mississippi State on Nov. 9. She was also tops on the team in hitting percentage as she only recorded two errors in 40 attempts. Against Alabama, Williams hit at a .500 clip and followed that performance by posting a career-high .550 percentage against the Bulldogs.

Williams also led the team defensively as she tallied eight blocks, including six against Mississippi State, two of which were solo.

On the season, Williams has stepped up since Lauren DeGirolamo went out with a season-ending injury and has helped guide the Tigers to a one-and-a-half match lead in the SEC West over Ole Miss with four matches remaining.
