BATON ROUGE — LSU slipped four spots to No. 20 in this week’s Bowl Championship Series Standings following Saturday’s overtime loss to No. 1 ranked Alabama.
The Tigers, now 6-3 overall and 3-3 in league play, have a .2403 BCS average. The BCS formula is made up of two human elements ? the USA Today Coaches Poll and the Harris Interactive Poll ? along with the computer element – which includes six computer polls.
Alabama is No. 1 in the BCS Standings for the second straight week followed by Texas Tech at No. 2, Texas at No. 3, Florida at No. 4, and Oklahoma at No. 5.
Other Southeastern Conference teams in the BCS standings include Georgia at No. 10 and South Carolina at No. 25. LSU has faced four teams currently ranked in the BCS top 25, including three in the top 10.
In the other polls, LSU is ranked No. 19 in the Harris Interactive Poll as well as the Associated Press Top 25. The Tigers are No. 20 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
LSU extended its streak of consecutive weeks in the top 25 as the Tigers have been ranked now for 94 consecutive weeks in the USA Today Coaches Poll and for 93 straight weeks in the AP Poll. The last time LSU failed to make the top 25 in either poll came following the Tigers loss to Texas in the 2003 Cotton Bowl to conclude the 2002 season.
LSU returns to action this week, hosting Troy University in a non-conference contest in Tiger Stadium. Kickoff for Saturday’s game against Troy is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be televised on TigerVision, LSU’s pay-per-view network.
