SEC West Champs Advance in National Polls

BATON ROUGE — After winning its second-straight SEC Western Division championship with a 3-1 win over Arkansas on Friday night, the LSU soccer team has seen its stock continue to rise in three national polls released late Monday afternoon.

The Tigers (13-3-1, 7-3-1 SEC) will carry a No. 11 ranking in the latest Soccer America Top 25 into this week’s SEC Tournament, while they remain at No. 20 in the Soccer Times Top 25 and move up four spots to No. 25 in the latest Soccer Buzz Top 30.

LSU will play as the No. 2 seed in the SEC Tournament as they take on the No. 7 seed Ole Miss Rebels in the opening match of the single-elimination tournament on Wednesday at noon CT.

The Tigers are now the two-time defending SEC Western Division champions after wrapping up the regular season with a dominating 3-1 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks on Friday at the LSU Soccer Complex. The club has also put itself in a position to earn an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row as it is ranked No. 33 in the latest RPI released Monday.

If LSU is unable to earn an automatic berth by winning the SEC Tournament, the team will learn of its postseason fate by tuning in to the NCAA Tournament Selection Show on Monday, Nov. 10, as it will be broadcast on ESPNews between 7-7:30 p.m. CT.
