ORLANDO, Fla. — The LSU men’s tennis team had a solid performance on Saturday, notching seven wins against Florida Atlantic on day two at the University of Central Florida Invitational.
“It was good effort overall and we are looking forward to one more day of matches,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said.
Freshmen Neal Skupski and Mark Bowtell continued to excel in the tournament as Skupski notched a win for the Tigers in both singles and doubles and Bowtell once again tallied a win in singles.
Skupski overcame opponent Joe Cadogan, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2, in Flight A before moving into doubles competition with partner Sebastian Carlsson to notch the duo’s second win of the tournament. The Tiger tandem emerged victorious after a heated match against Marc Abdelnour and Daniel Vardag, winning the match by 9-7 mark.
Bowtell squared off against FAU’s Joshua Scholl in Flight B to take a singles victory in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3. Sophomore Ryan Lissner also added a singles win for LSU in Flight B as he defeated Eddie Majcher, 6-4, 6-2.
Sophomore Julien Gauthier and senior Jonathan Tragardh also had concrete performances in day two of the UCF invitational.
Both Gauthier and Tragardh marked a win in singles. Gauthier notched a victory against Daniel Vardag, 6-1, 7-5, and Tragardh overcame Lawrence Harradine by a 7-6, 6-2 mark.
Gauthier and Tragardh joined forces for the doubles portion of the tournament in Flight B. The LSU duo faced FAU’s Joe Cadogan and Lawrence Harradine, topping the FAU pair 8-4.
LSU faces Georgia State on Sunday for the third and final day of the tournament. Matches will begin at 7 a.m. at the UCF Tennis complex.
