Soccer’s Jones Named to Academic All-District Team

BATON ROUGE ? For the second year in a row, senior captain Roslyn Jones has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team, but this time it is as a first-team selection as announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Jones has earned first-team honors in District VI this season for her performance in the classroom after earning third-team honors from CoSIDA a year ago.

She has compiled a 3.6 grade-point average since joining the LSU soccer program in 2005 as she is pursuing a degree in kinesiology with a concentration in human movement. For her efforts, she has also been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll three times in her collegiate career.

Jones, a native of Mandeville, La., is one of the most prolific scorers in the history of LSU soccer as she currently ranks in the Top 10 of six different offensive categories, including sixth with 22 goals and 59 points in three seasons playing on LSU’s front line. She is the team’s fourth-leading scorer this fall with six goals and four assists for 16 points.

Jones has been a catalyst in LSU’s rise to national prominence in recent years as the Tigers carry a No. 14 ranking into their regular season finale on Friday night.

She will be honored tonight, along with fellow seniors Casey Crawford and Jackie Moseley, as part of Senior Night festivities when the Tigers welcome the Arkansas Razorbacks to the LSU Soccer Complex in a match scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. LSU can clinch its second consecutive SEC West championship and the No. 2 seed in the SEC Tournament with a win.
