ORLANDO, Fla. — Eight members of the LSU men’s tennis team will represent the Tigers as the University of Central Florida Invitational begins on Friday.
Also participating in the tournament will be Georgia State and Florida Atlantic. The informal tournament will take place as a flighted event during which the players will be grouped into flights, but will only face players from a predetermined school for the three-day span of the tournament.
This will be the last fall tournament for the Tigers before LSU’s final fall event in which senior Michael Venus, who did not travel to Orlando, will compete in the ITA National Indoor Championships, beginning Nov. 6.
In addition to Venus, senior James Cluskey also did not make the trip to Orlando, allowing for those in competition to play at a higher court position.
“This will be a chance for everyone to play a higher position than last year as Michael [Venus] and James [Cluskey] are not here,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “We are looking to see who raises their game.”
LSU will square off against the University of Central Florida with matches beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday at the UCF Tennis Complex.
