BATON ROUGE — On the strength of its school record five-game winning streak in SEC play, the LSU soccer team continues its rise toward the Top 10 as it is nationally ranked as high as No. 13 in this week’s Soccer America Top 25 poll released late Monday.
The Tigers are up four spots from No. 17 a week ago as they have now been ranked as one of the Top 20 teams in the country for eight straight weeks by Soccer America.
The squad has also climbed into the Top 20 at No. 19 in the latest Soccer Times Top 25 released Monday, while it moved up eight spots to No. 22 in this week’s Soccer Buzz Top 30.
The Tigers (12-2, 6-2 SEC) have vaulted to the No. 2 spot in the overall SEC standings with only three regular season games remaining as they are currently on 18 points in league play, trailing first-place Florida by six points on the table. LSU is also in position to win its second consecutive SEC Western Division title as it is five points clear of second-place Auburn in the division race.
Not only did LSU extend its SEC winning streak to five games this weekend, but it also extended its home unbeaten streak to a school record 18 games with a 1-0 shutout of Vanderbilt on Friday night and a 2-1 defeat of Kentucky on Sunday afternoon at the LSU Soccer Complex.
The Tigers will take their hot streak to Columbia, S.C., on Thursday night as they battle the South Carolina Gamecocks in a match scheduled for a 6 p.m. CT kickoff at Stone Stadium.
