BATON ROUGE — After earning a runner-up at the Squire Creek Invitational earlier this week, the LSU men’s golf team has cracked two national polls once again as the Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches’ Top 25 and Golfstat Top 25 were released Wednesday.
This marks the second straight week that the Tigers are ranked in both polls as they are No. 24 in the Golf World poll and No. 25 in the Golfstat ranking.
LSU has raced out of the blocks this season while accumulating a 28-6-3 record in three events to position themselves among the nation’s best teams with just one tournament remaining in the fall. The Tigers opened the season by winning the team title at the 2008 Gopher Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota at Spring Hill Golf Club in Wayzata, Minn.
On Tuesday, LSU tied New Orleans for first place at the Squire Creek Invitational after posting a 11-under par 853 in 54 holes for its lowest tournament score in four years. The Privateers won the team title by outlasting the Tigers in a five-man sudden-death playoff.
Senior Jarrod Barsamian earned his first career Top 10 finish at Squire Creek by tying for sixth at 6-under 210 as five different Tigers have now finished in the Top 10 of a tournament this season.
The Tigers will tee it up again in 10 days when they travel to Isleworth Golf and Country Club in Windermere, Fla., to compete in the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Championship from Oct. 26-28 in what might be the most prestigious tournament of the regular season. It includes 11 of the Top 20 teams ranked in the latest Golfweek Performance Index released on Oct. 8.
