BATON ROUGE — There is no denying that the LSU soccer team has firmly established itself among the Top 20 teams in the country with its play this season, and it has earned such a ranking for the seventh straight week in the national polls released Monday and Tuesday.
The Tigers climb two spots to No. 17 in this week’s Soccer America Top 25 released on Monday, while it is also back in the Top 20 at No. 20 in the latest Soccer Times Top 25 and No. 30 in this week’s Soccer Buzz Top 30 released on Tuesday morning.
LSU has been ranked as high as No. 9 this year in the Soccer America poll, and the squad has not been ranked lower than No. 19 since entering the ranking seven weeks ago.
The Tigers have taken control of the SEC Western Division after picking up two wins in division play this weekend, edging Auburn in overtime by the score of 2-1 on Friday night before crushing Alabama by a 7-0 margin on Sunday afternoon at the LSU Soccer Complex. With its performance this past weekend, LSU extended its school record home unbeaten streak to 16 games.
The Tigers are now 10-2 overall and 4-2 with 12 points in conference play, while Auburn sits two points back in second place with a 3-2-1 mark and 10 points in the SEC. Ole Miss and Alabama are still in contention three points back in the division with matching 3-3 records in league play.
LSU will look to extend its SEC winning streak to a school record four games this weekend when it plays host to the Vanderbilt Commodores on Friday at 7 p.m. before welcoming the Kentucky Wildcats to the LSU Soccer Complex on Sunday in a match scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
