EVANSTON, Ill. — Led by strong doubles play on Sunday at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center, the LSU women’s tennis team wrapped up its stay on day three at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Northwestern.
LSU won two of three doubles matches while freshman Whitney Wolf captured her first win of the tournament in straight sets as she defeated Wisconsin’s Katya Mirnova 6-4, 6-3.
“I was really pleased with doubles,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “We stepped up and played a lot better. Hopefully the momentum can carry us into the next tournament.”
In doubles Flight A consolation, Hannah Robinson and Wolf teamed up to beat Michigan State’s Manon Noe and Whitney Wilson 8-6. In Flight B consolation, Nicole Kantor and Nicole Smith defeated Oklahoma’s Maria Kalashnikova and Peta Maree Lancaster 9-7.
The Lady Tigers will have a quick turnaround as they will compete October 17-19 at the Rice Invitational in Houston.
