EVANSTON, Ill. — Facing tough opponents in singles and doubles on Friday, members of the LSU women’s tennis team came up short in their first round matches on the opening day of the Wildcat Invitational at Northwestern’s Vandy Christie Tennis Center.
Four Lady Tigers put up a fight in singles as Nicole Kantor, Nicole Smith, Kylie Adamek and Chandler Kleinpeter all lost in three-set matches.
“It was a tough day for us in singles and doubles,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “We still have two days left to keep working and hopefully pull out some wins and finish this tournament on a strong note.”
In doubles, Kantor and Smith claimed LSU’s lone win of the day by an 8-3 mark over Wisconsin’s Emese Kardhordo and Erin Jobe. Hannah Robinson and Whitney Wolf fought hard but fell in two close matches, losing the first in a tiebreaker 9-8 (4) and the second 9-7.
The Lady Tigers will return to the courts for more singles and doubles action on Saturday at 9 a.m. CT.
