Scott Continues Climb Up National Rankings

Scott Remains Among Nation’s Best Runners

BATON ROUGE — LSU running back Charles Scott continues to be ranked among the best in the nation in rushing as he’s ranked No. 7 this week with 133.75 yards per game.

Scott, a junior, has rushed for at least 100 yards in LSU’s first four games this year. Scott, who also leads the Southeastern Conference in rushing, has racked up 535 yards and six touchdowns on 71 carries. Scott is coming off a 141-yard, 2-touchdown effort against Mississippi State two weeks ago. LSU had last week off.

Scott and the rest of the Tigers return to action on Saturday when No. 3 LSU travels to Gainesville to face 11th-ranked Florida in a nationally televised prime time contest on CBS. Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.

Scott goes into the Florida game looking to become the first LSU running back since Dalton Hilliard in 1982 to rush for 100 yards in a game against the Gators in Gainesville. Hilliard ran for 127 yards on 26 carries in the 26-14 LSU win over Florida in the Swamp in 1982.

Already this year, Scott became the first running back in school history to run for 100 or more yards in a game at Auburn as he tallied 132 yards on 21 carries in the 26-21 LSU victory.

Scott is also the first LSU running back since Charles Alexander, and just the third in school history, to open a year with four straight 100-yard games. Alexander opened the 1978 season by rushing for 100 yards in LSU’s first four games. Steve Van Buren holds the school record by going over the 100-yard mark in the first seven games in 1943.

Other LSU players ranked among the national leaders include Trindon Holliday at No. 2 in punt returns with a 25.14 average, Colt David at No. 4 in the nation in field goals with 2.0 per game and No. 16 in scoring with 9.67 points per contest, Brandon LaFell at No. 25 in yards receiving per game with 87.0 per contest, and quarterback Jarrett Lee ranked No. 27 in pass efficiency with a 146.51 rating.

As a team, LSU is ranked No. 8 in the nation in rushing yards allowed per game with a 69.0 average. LSU is also No. 14 in total defense (260.75 yards per game) and No. 19 in scoring defense at 15.25 points per contest.
