BATON ROUGE — For the sixth week in a row, the LSU soccer team finds itself ranked among the Top 20 teams in the country as it has received a No. 19 ranking in the latest Soccer America Top 25 poll released by the publication on Monday.
The Tigers, who have been ranked as high as No. 9 nationally by Soccer America this year, have dropped four spots in this week’s ranking after falling to the Tennessee Lady Volunteers, 2-1, on Friday night and picking up a much needed 2-1 win over the Georgia Bulldogs on Sunday.
Sunday’s victory was a historic one for LSU as it marked the first time in program history that the club defeated the Bulldogs at the Turner Soccer Complex in Athens in five meetings all-time.
The win also snapped a two-game losing skid in the Southeastern Conference as the Tigers enter this weekend’s action with an 8-2 overall record and an even 2-2 mark in league play. After going on the road for its first four SEC matches, LSU will end the season with six of seven games being played at the LSU Soccer Complex, where it is riding a school record 14-game unbeaten streak.
The Tigers are not only ranked among the nation’s best clubs in the latest Soccer America Top 25 as they are also ranked in the Soccer Times Top 25 poll for the sixth straight week. LSU is now in a tie for 23rd according to the publication following its split weekend.
The Tigers welcome a return to the friendly confines of the LSU Soccer Complex this weekend for the first time in nearly one month as they play host to a pair of SEC West rivals with matches scheduled against Auburn on Friday at 7 p.m. and Alabama on Sunday at 1 p.m.
