BATON ROUGE — Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams return to the races this Saturday when they travel to Auburn, Ala., for the 16th annual Tiger Invitational at the Indian Pines Golf Course.
Due to the record number of entries, the 2008 Tiger Invitational will run two sections of men’ s and women’s races. The meet will feature 67 collegiate teams with 36 on the women’s side and 42 participating in the men’s side.
The competition of the 12-team 5K women’s blue race will begin at 8:45 a.m. Following that, the Lady Tigers will run in the 24-team 5K women’s orange race at 9:30 a.m.
The Tigers will compete in the 27-team men’s 8K orange race starting at 10:15 a.m. The final race of the day will be an 11 a.m. start for the 15-team 8K men’s blue race.
Last season, the LSU’s men team posted a second-place finish at the Tiger Invitational. The women finished eight among the 22-team field overall. Both teams are looking to better their team performances this time around.
The Tigers are coming off a win in their own Tiger Festival last week and will try to build on that effort as they head into one of their biggest challenge of the season.
The Lady Tigers will also be facing tough competition of the season. They hope to improve upon a fifth-place effort at last week’s Tiger Festival.
Both the Tigers and Lady Tigers will take next weekend off before returning to action October 18, at the Chili Pepper Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
