PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. — LSU women’s tennis player Megan Falcon lost in a tough, three-set match to Cal’s seventh-ranked Marina Cossou 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 in the first round of the main draw at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships on Thursday.
Despite claiming the second set in dominant fashion, 15th-ranked Falcon could not sustain the momentum in the third set.
“Megan fought so hard but came up a little bit short,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “She gave tremendous effort in the match, but the good thing about this tournament is that she will have a great opportunity to get back on track tomorrow.”
Falcon will now play in the consolation bracket and will attempt to capture the title for the third-straight season. Falcon’s first match will be at 3 p.m. CT on Friday against Duke’s Reka Zsilinszka at 3 p.m. CT. If Falcon wins that match, she will play at 6 p.m. CT against either North Carolina’s Sanaz Marand or Fresno State’s Anastasia Petukhova.
