EULESS, Texas — LSU sophomore women’s golfer Nichole Crochet opened with an even-par 71 on Tuesday to stand in second place after the first round of the Collegiate Players Tour’s National Championship event at the Texas Star Golf Club.
Crochet is two-shots out of the lead set by Tyrette Metzendorf of Winter Haven, Fla., who shot a 2-under 69 on the opening day of the 54-hole event. Metzendorf is a senior at the University of Iowa. Crochet hails from Harahan, La.
This final stop of the CPT is for the top point earners from a series of tournaments played throughout the south this year. Crochet is coming off a top performance in San Antonio where she finished second just last week.
Crochet is two shots ahead of third-place Andrea Sellmeyer, a junior at the University of Oklahoma, who posted a 2-over 73.
