BATON ROUGE — Kevin Dessauer, Jan Zelezny and Sebastian Carlsson of the LSU men’s tennis team earned All-Academic Team honors as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its list of scholar athletes recently.

In order to receive the honor, a student-athlete must earn a varsity letter, achieve a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and have been enrolled at least two semesters at the university.

Dessauer earned the honor for the fourth time. The award is a two-time honor for Zelezny and Carlsson is making his debut on the All-Academic list.

“Along with their outstanding academic accomplishments, these were three of the biggest contributors to our team’s success last season. It’s even more significant that they were able to balance tennis and achieve this level of personal success,” commented head coach Jeff Brown.

Dessauer, a spring graduate in kinesiology and a University Medalist, finished his collegiate career with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.  The New Orleans native was named the 2008 Co-SEC Scholar athlete of the year in addition to receiving the Southeast regional ITA/Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Scholarship. He was also named a member of the 2008 SEC Community Service Team.

The only two-time SEC Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year, Dessauer balanced his commitments to the classroom and the courts by garnering Second-Team All-SEC and First-Team All-Louisiana honors. He posted a 21-12 singles record in addition to a 19-12 doubles record in his final season.

Zelezny, a summa cum laude graduate, earned his degree in Finance during spring commencement.  The two-time All-Academic Team honoree notched a 20-18 singles record anchoring one of the top two spots for the Tigers.

Carlsson garnered 2008 First-Team All-Louisiana and Louisiana Freshman of the Year honors.  The Sweden native posted a team-best 27 wins and clinched LSU’s 4-3 upset over No. 8 Florida.

Carlsson returns for his sophomore season as LSU opens its fall season Sept. 12-14 at the Rice Invitational.
