BEIJING — Former LSU swimmer Heather Brand represented her native country of Zimbabwe in the 100-meter butterfly Saturday at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Brand, a 2006 NCAA All-American who trains professionally with King Aquatic Club in Federal Way, Wash., finished in 42nd-place with a time of 1 minute, 01.39 seconds in her only Olympic event but was unable to move on.
The top 16 competitors advanced to Sunday’s semifinals in the 100m fly. Australia’s Jessicah Schipper registered a time of 57.58 seconds, the quickest mark of the preliminary heats. American Christine Magnuson tied China’s Zhou Yafei for the second-fastest time of the prelims with a mark of 57.70.
Brand was the first of two former LSU swimmers scheduled to compete in this summer’s Olympic Games. Miko Malberg will swim the 50m freestyle on August 14.
