Soccer Season Tickets On Sale Now

BATON ROUGE — With the 2008 soccer season less than one month away, LSU fans have the opportunity to reserve their season tickets at the LSU Soccer Complex for what is sure to be another record-setting season for the Tigers this fall.

Fans can purchase season tickets for all 11 of LSU’s home matches online at www.LSUsports.net or by contacting the LSU Ticket Office at 225-578-2184.

Reserved seating in the midfield bleacher backs are $50, while general admission tickets are $35 and youth tickets are just $15. Those who purchase general admission tickets will save 37 percent and those who purchase youth tickets will save 55 percent from the value of buying 11 individual game tickets each time the Tigers take to the pitch.

LSU returns one of the more talented teams in the Southeastern Conference this fall and fans have the chance to see the defending SEC Western Division champions in action as the Tigers open the season with a match against South Alabama on Aug. 22 at 7 p.m.

“Last season was unlike any other in the history of the LSU soccer program and we’re looking forward to even bigger and better things in 2008,” said LSU head coach Brian Lee. “We have the best fans in the country, and they’ve certainly played a major role in the success we enjoy today. I have no doubt that they will enjoy another great season at the LSU Soccer Complex this fall.

“By reserving their season tickets, they will have the chance to see some outstanding soccer with many of the nation’s best players in action week in and week out.”

The Tigers were a hit at the box office a year ago as they finished among the Top 10 teams in the nation in average home attendance for the first time in program history. They averaged 1,294 fans per match in eight home matches to rank No. 7 in the NCAA in average paid attendance.

The Tigers also set three all-time attendance records in 2007 with a high of 2,402 fans turning out to see LSU upset sixth-ranked Tennessee, 3-0, on Oct. 5. That atmosphere played a major role in the Tigers finishing the season unbeaten at home for the first time with a 5-0-3 mark.

What’s even more impressive is the surge in overall attendance in three seasons under Lee as the average home attendance is up 121 percent from his first season in 2005.

“We appreciate all of our fans for the support they’ve given us these last three seasons,” Lee said. “LSU soccer is quickly becoming one of the more recognizable programs in women’s college soccer. We’re fortunate to have a supportive fanbase that is passionate the sport, and our kids feed off of their energy each time they step onto the field. It’s great to be a part of.”

After opening the season against South Alabama on Aug. 22, the Tigers take on perennial NCAA Tournament participant BYU on Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. They wrap up their home non-conference slate with matches against Kent State on Sept. 5, Dartmouth on Sept. 7 and Houston on Sept. 14.

LSU will play host to six SEC matches this season as they look to defend their SEC Western Division crown. The Tigers kick off a four-game homestand with matches against Auburn on Oct. 10, Alabama on Oct. 12, Vanderbilt on Oct. 17 and Kentucky on Oct. 19. They then wrap up the regular season with a pair of matches against Florida on Oct. 26 and Arkansas on Oct. 31.
