DALLAS, Texas — LSU sophomore-to-be Lindy LaBauve of Scottsdale, Ariz., advanced through a large field to make the finals of the 78th annual Women’s Trans National Golf Association Amateur Championship at the Bent Tree Country Club.
The event is considered one of the “Big Three” events in women’s amateur golf each summer.
LaBauve lost in the championship match Saturday to Ashley Freeman of Belleville, Ill., who will be a junior at Texas A&M this fall. Freeman won the match, 4 and 3, needing eight birdies in the 36 hole match to get the advantage. LaBauve birdied six of the 33 holes that they played in the final.
Once LaBauve qualified for the field of 64 she won matches against: Alexandra Richards of Austin, 6 and 4; Edin Michele, Jackson, Minn., in 19 holes; Kueny Laura of Whitehall, Mich., 3 and 2; Selvaratnam Thuhashin of Tempe, Ariz., 5 and 3; and, in the semifinals, Tiffany Phelps of McKinney, Texas, 3 and 2.
LaBauve as a freshman at LSU last year played in six events, averaging 76.6 strokes per round. Her best finish was a tie for ninth at the Crimson Tide Classic, posting a 54-hole total of nine-over 225 (78-74-73).
