BATON ROUGE — Present LSU golfer Megan McChrystal and soon to be freshman Jacqueline Hedwall are among the members of the LSU women’s golf team producing good results this summer.

McChrystal, who led the LSU team in stroke average as a freshman, shot a one-over par 73 in the sectional qualifying round in Florida for the USGA Women’s Amateur event in a qualifier held at Palm City Florida.

That puts McChrystal in the field for the Amateur title, won in 2001 by LSU golfer Meredith Duncan of Shreveport, which will be decided on Aug. 4-10 at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Ore.

Freshman to be Jacqueline Hedwall of Sweden finished second in the 2008 Helen Holm Scottish ladies Open, played on The Royal Troon course. Hedwall finished second in this prestigious event for European junior girls with scores of 75-74-67 ? 216.

She also made it to the semifinals of the Ladies British Open Amateur Championship where she happened to be defeated by her twin sister, Caroline. It was the first time twins have met in a semifinal in the history of the event.

This past week she was playing with her twin sister as part of the Swedish team in the European Ladies Amateur Championship at the Stenungsunds Golf Course in Sweden. In the first round of match play, Sweden defeated France 6-1 as the two twins, Jacqueline and Caroline played a winning foursomes match.  Sweden would go on to win the event, defeating Spain, 4-3 in the semifinals and the championship against the Netherlands, 5-2.

Also this past week, a couple of LSU golfers participated in the Collegiate Players Tour event at Pelican Point where sophomore Abby Oberthier of Montgomery, Texas finished sixth with a three-day total of 15-over 231 and redshirt freshman Mary-Michael Burns of Baton Rouge finished seventh at 241.
