BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A total of 20 LSU student-athletes were named to the 2008 Southeastern Conference Freshmen Academic Honor Roll, Commissioner Mike Slive announced this week.
The Lady Tiger golf team topped the list of LSU teams with four members on the Honor Roll, while the softball team had three members on the list. The baseball, women’s swimming and diving, men’s tennis and volleyball teams each had two members and the women’s basketball, football, men’s swimming and diving, women’s tennis and men’s track and field teams each had one.
A total of freshmen student-athletes were named to the 2008 SEC Freshmen Academic Honor Roll. A total of 2,340 student-athletes around the league earned Academic Honor Roll recognition in 2007-08. Florida and South Carolina topped the list with 66 freshmen student-athletes each on the academic roster, while Alabama had 56 and Kentucky had 50 honorees.
Each student-athlete must 1) have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship or a letter winner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport’s entire NCAA Championship segment. The 2008 SEC Freshmen Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2007-08 academic calendar.
