BATON ROUGE — LSU pitchers Daniel Bradshaw and Austin Ross were named Tuesday to the 2008 Southeastern Conference Freshmen Academic Honor Roll.
The freshmen right-handers excelled both on the field and in the classroom in their first year on the LSU campus.
Bradshaw, a native of West Monroe, La., made 26 appearances during the 2008 season, including two starts. He posted a 4-5 record and a 4.12 ERA with four saves in 54.2 innings. Bradshaw recorded 52 strikeouts and 13 walks, and opponents batted just .243 against him.
Ross, a Shreveport, La. product, made 21 appearances, including two starts. He recorded a 3-1 mark with a 2.58 ERA and three saves in 52.1 innings. Ross registered 37 strikeouts and nine walks, and he was named the Louisiana Sportswriters Association Pitcher of the Week on April 8 after a magnificent relief win at Southern University.
Ross entered the Southern game in the second inning and fired seven shutout frames, limiting the Jaguars to four hits with a career-best eight strikeouts.
To qualify for the SEC Freshmen Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above; 2) be on scholarship or a letter winner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport’s entire NCAA Championship segment.
