Skupski Ousted From Wimbledom Doubles Draw

WIMBLEDON, England — Former LSU tennis player Ken Skupski was eliminated from the doubles tournament in the first round of the Wimbledon Championships Wednesday night at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

Skupski and Richard Bloomfield from the United Kingdom split the first two sets and fell behind in the third in their best of five sets contest against 13th-seeded Frantisek Cermak of the Czech Republic and Jordan Kerr of Australia Tuesday before night fall postponed the match to Wednesday.

Trailing 4-2 in the third set to begin Wednesday’s action, Bloomfield and Skupski were only able to capture two more games before the 13th-seeded pair took the third set by a 6-4 mark. Cermak and Kerr won the fourth and final set the same way they won the first and third as they won by a 6-4 score to advance to the second round.

Cermak and Kerr will battle the Argentina pair of Carlos Berlocq and Eduardo Schwank in the second round.

Skupski will also take part in the mixed doubles portion of the championships with Naomi Cavady of the United Kingdom. The mixed doubles draw will be released next week.
