Little League Tigers Get to Meet the Real LSU Tigers

This spring, the purple-and-gold-clad “LSU Tigers” in Omaha’s Memorial Park Little League learned a lot about baseball, including just how tough and frustrating the game can be.

But on Monday, the young Tigers received encouragement to keep their heads up from a most inspiring, and appropriate, source: the real Louisiana State University Tigers, who are in Omaha for this year’s College World Series.

“Baseball is a game where you’re always going to fail more than you succeed,” LSU’s Paul Bertuccini told 12-year-old Jonathon Randle when the two Tiger teams got together Monday. “It’s not easy. Keep working hard.”

And in the larger picture, despite their struggles on the field this spring, the Little League Tigers actually are part of a success story: the revival of baseball in Omaha’s black community.
