OMAHA, Neb. — In 2002, LSU Volunteer Assistant Coach Javi Sanchez was the starting shortstop on Paul Mainieri‘s Notre Dame Irish squad that advanced to the College World Series. Six years later, the Miami native played a key role in LSU’s return to Rosenblatt Stadium.
Sanchez no longer fields grounders deep in the hole or catches nine innings (his position during his final two seasons at Notre Dame). Instead, the 27-year-old has assumed many duties including first-base coach.
Watch a free video interview in the Geaux Zone, as Sanchez speaks to LSUsports.net about his first trip to Omaha, the Tigers’ amazing winning streak, a now-infamous ejection after UC Irvine’s hidden ball trick during LSU’s only loss since April 19, and a balk call that started the blowout victory that got the Tigers into the College World Series.
