BATON ROUGE — ESPN has issued the following statement regarding its telecast of LSU’s NCAA Super Regional win over UC-Irvine on Monday night. During LSU’s runaway 21-7 victory in the final game in the history of Alex Box Stadium, ESPN2 cut away from the game nationally and on its high definition channel in the state of Louisiana to show the Arizona State-Fresno State Super Regional game.
The game continued to be shown in its entirety on ESPN2’s standard definition channel in Louisiana.
Following is ESPN’s statement:
“We apologize to the great fans of LSU who were unaware that the game was available in their protected market. While we made an effort to alert fans in advance and as it was happening, we will be more aggressive in the future about letting fans know how to access the telecast.
“In non-protected markets outside of Louisiana, fans received ESPN2’s standard ?whiparound’ feed, designed to showcase the most exciting action. In Louisiana, fans received the protected (LSU-UCI) game in its entirety on the ESPN2 standard definition channel or on an alternate ESPN2 channel via satellite.
“We are making the complete telecast available on ESPN.com (as of Wednesday morning), www.ESPN360.com (available now) and ESPNU (Friday at 3:30 p.m. CT).”
