Lady Tigers Doubles Team Eliminated from NCAA’s

TULSA, Okla. — The LSU women’s tennis season came to an end Thursday as 22nd-ranked Megan Falcon and Mykala Hedberg fell, 6-4, 6-3, to Clemson’s 4th-ranked Ani Mijacika and Carol Salge in the round of 32 of the NCAA Doubles Tournament at Tulsa’s Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

With the loss, Falcon and Hedberg finished the season with a 12-5 record and a 5-3 mark against ranked opponents.

Mijacika and Salge picked up their 12th straight victory to advance to the round of 16.

“Megan and Mykala have played very solid over the second half of the season, but they ran up against a very good team,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “Clemson’s team has won a lot of matches this year. I was proud of how we played, but Clemson was the better team today.”

In the first set, the Lady Tiger duo jumped in front 2-1 after breaking Clemson’s serve. However, Mijacika and Salge broke right back and won the next game to go up 3-2.

Both teams traded games to get to 5-4 in favor of Clemson, but the Clemson pair broke Falcon and Hedberg to take the first set, 6-4.

In the second set, LSU’s duo quickly fell behind 2-0, but Falcon and Hedberg fought back to take the next two games to even the match at 2-all.

Mijacika and Salge answered right back by taking the next two games to go up a break, 4-2.

Falcon and Hedberg broke back to make it 4-3, but Clemson’s pair closed the match and the Lady Tigers’ season by winning the last three games to pull out the victory, 6-3.
