Men’s Golf Finishes Ninth at Seminole

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The LSU men’s golf team wrapped up the Seminole Intercollegiate in ninth place after posting team scores of 11-over 299 and 9-over 297 on Monday at Golden Eagle Country Club to finish the 54-hole championship at 25-over 889.

The scheduled three-day championship kicked off Sunday with the opening round, but the second and third rounds of the event were played back-to-back on Monday with severe thunderstorms expected to hit Tallahassee early Tuesday morning.

Junior Jarrod Barsamian paced the Tigers on the final day of the competition by firing rounds of 2-under par 70 in the second round and 2-over 74 in the final round to finish the championship in a tie for 24th place with a 54-hole score of 4-over 220.

Barsamian’s effort in the second round was his lowest score since firing a career low 4-under 68 in the final round of the 2007 Bridgestone Collegiate Championship at Forest Oaks Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., on Oct. 30.

Sophomore Bryant Lach led the way in the final round with his best round of the season at 1-under 71 as the native of The Woodlands, Texas, posted a 9-over 225 in three rounds to finish the championship in a tie for 39th place on the individual leaderboard.

Freshman standout Clayton Rotz tied for 31st at 6-over 222, while fellow freshman John Peterson tied for 39th place at 9-over 225 and sophomore Brent Blaum placed 57th at 15-over 231.

Tournament host Florida State captured the team title by four strokes over defending champion Auburn as the Seminoles fired a 54-hole team total of 6-under 858 at the par-72 layout. Auburn finished four shots back in second place at 2-under 862, while Virginia took third place in the team standings with a three-round total of 2-over 866.

Vanderbilt’s Jon Curran entered the second day of the competition in a tie for the top spot on the leaderboard and fired matching rounds of 4-under 68 on Monday to win medalist honors by three shots over Auburn’s Jay Moseley with an impressive 54-hole score of 10-under 206.

The Tigers return to the links on March 14 as they make their annual trip Statesboro, Ga., to compete in the prestigious Schenkel/E-Z-Go Invitational hosted by Georgia Southern at Forest Heights Country Club. The 54-hole tournament is scheduled for three days from March 14-16.
