Clare-Kearney Named SEC Co-Gymnast of the Year

BATON ROUGE — LSU standout Ashleigh Clare-Kearney was named the Co-SEC Gymnast of the Year after the SEC Championships on Saturday by the conference office.

Clare-Kearney, a junior from Manchester, Conn., tied with Lindsey Puckett from Auburn for the league honor, voted on by the coaches.

During the season, Clare-Kearney posted 10.0 scores on the vault and floor against Michigan State. It was only the second time in school history a gymnast scored two perfect scores in a single meet.

Her all-around score of 39.800 against Michigan State tied her for the third best individual all-around score in school history

Additionally, she is currently ranked No.3 in the nation in the all-around with an RQS of 39.520. She is also in the top 25 in each individual event.

Shortly before she was given the honor, Clare-Kearney won the all-around event title in at the SEC Championships with a 39.600. LSU finished fourth in the event with a 196.500.

She was named the SEC Gymnast of the Week twice this season. She was given the honor after her stellar meet against Michigan State, as well as after she at least won a share of each event title at Arkansas on Jan. 18.

The SEC Freshman of the Year was given to Cassidy McComb of Georgia. The SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year was given to Rebekah Zaiser of Florida. Four coaches shared the SEC Coach of the Year Award in Mark and Rene’ Cook of Arkansas, Jeff Thompson of Auburn and Suzanne Yoculan of Georgia.
