BATON ROUGE — On a windy and chilly day at W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium, the LSU women’s tennis team (8-6, 3-3 SEC) could not overcome the conditions or 20th-ranked Tennessee (11-5, 4-2) as the Lady Tigers fell, 6-1, on Sunday.

In doubles, Megan Falcon and Mykala Hedberg continued their strong play as the Lady Tiger tandem defeated Tennessee’s ninth-ranked pair of Caitlin Whoriskey and Zsofia Zubor, 8-3. It marked the second dominant victory over a ranked duo this weekend. On Friday, Falcon and Hedberg knocked off Georgia’s 25th-ranked Kelley Hyndman and Yvette Hyndman, 8-2.

On the season, Falcon and Hedberg hold a 7-2 record and are now 3-0 against ranked competition.

In singles, 19th-ranked Falcon earned another win over a ranked foe by dominating No. 71 Whoriskey in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. On the weekend, Falcon finished 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles play with all four victories coming against ranked opponents.

With the win over Whoriskey, Falcon upped her team-leading record to 19-4 and her dual record to 11-2.

However, Falcon’s win on court one marked the only victory for LSU against the Lady Vols.

“I’m really disappointed with the effort,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “Not to take anything away from Tennessee because they played a great match, but we have to compete better than we did today.

“Tennessee came on our home court and played with more energy and intensity than we did. If we want to achieve what we are capable of achieving, then we can’t come out with that type of effort anymore.”

A busy week lies ahead for LSU as the Lady Tigers will take a break from conference play to host a double-header Wednesday beginning at 3 p.m. against Colorado in the “Dub”. LSU will then take on Southern at 6 p.m.
