Women’s Golf Finishes Ninth in Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. — The 19th-ranked LSU Lady Tigers couldn’t get back on track once the wind caused havoc with Saturday’s round and ended up with a ninth-place finish Sunday’s in the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the University of Georgia Golf Course Sunday.

Host Georgia and Purdue tied for the team title after 54 holes with 36-over par 900. Georgia posted a 298 in the final round while Purdue was three strokes better to get into the tie for the top spot. Georgia posted rounds of 302-300-298 while Purdue’s rounds were 302-303-295. Georgia recorded four pars on the second playoff hole to win the playoff for the team title.

Alabama was third at +48 over 912, four shots better than Arkansas’ 916.

LSU posted a round of 27-over 315 on the final day to finish at 64-over par 928. LSU posted rounds of 297-316-315 for the three-day competition that will be their final scheduled start until the SEC Championship Tournament in Loudon, Tenn., next month.

“Nothing was going our ways the last two days,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “Counting two scores in the 80s each of the last two days is not what we want to do as we get closer to the post-season play. We will have some time after playing three golf events in less than two weeks. We are still a very good golf team and look forward to getting back to Baton Rouge and making a few adjustments as we prepare for the next event.”

LSU was led in the final round by freshman Megan McChrystal who finished with a four-over round of 76 to finish in a tie for 24th at 16-over 232 (69-87-76). Alexis Rather shot a 77 with Lindy LaBauve and Rebecca Kuhn posting counting 81s.

Purdue players Christel Boeljon and Maria Hernandez tied for the individual crown at two over 218. Boeljon shot rounds of 74-75-69 and Hernandez posted rounds of 76-74-68.
