AUBURN, Ala. — Sophomore Rachel Ware and freshman Michael Neubacher of the LSU diving team reached the finals of their respective events Friday on the first day of the NCAA Zone “B” Championships at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center.
Ware finished fifth in the 1-meter with a score of 552.45. The SEC Diver of the Year reached the finals after posting a score of 270.25 in the prelims.
Neubacher, who was named SEC Freshman Diver of the Year, finished 15th in the 3-meter with a score of 638.95. The Windermere, Fla., native scored 309.70 in the prelims.
“Some of us were ready and some were not but the good part is that we have two more days left,” said LSU diving coach Doug Shaffer. “Rachel did well but she has not secured her spot at NCAAs yet. She has put herself in good position to get it though. The guys did a nice job but the competition is very tough. We did not do as well as we did at the SEC Championships but we hope to improve over the next two days.”
Junior Niko Dalman finished two spots shy of reaching the 3-meter finals as he tallied a prelim score of 293.45. Junior Nathan Schreiber posted a prelim score of 239.50 to round out LSU’s competitors on the men’s side.
Senior Paige Brown posted a score of 222.90 in the 1-meter prelims.
Action resumes Saturday at noon with the women’s 3-meter and the men’s 1-meter.
