BATON ROUGE — Men’s tennis senior Kevin Dessauer and softball pitcher Dani Hofer have been named LSU male and female athletes of the week.
The award is Dessauer’s first as a Tiger after he posted a perfect 5-0 record last week in singles and doubles play, losing only nine games in the process.
The 2007 SEC Male Scholar Athlete of the Year, he currently holds a perfect 8-0 record in dual play, including a 3-0 mark in the SEC.
On Sunday against Vanderbilt and Centenary, Dessauer and doubles partner Sebastian Carlsson were near perfect winning both matches 8-0 while only giving up 20 points along the way.
After giving up only one run while posting two complete-game wins in a series sweep over No. 16 Georgia, junior pitcher Dani Hofer was named this week’s LSU Female Student-Athlete of the Week.
The award is the fourth of her career after she won three times as a sophomore in 2007.
A 2007 First-Team All-SEC selcetion, Hofer lead the Tigers to a 4-0 record last week and the team is currently on an eight-game winning streak as they travel to Clearwater, Fla. for the USF Under Armour Showcase on Friday.

Recorded a pair of complete-game wins over No. 16 Georgia on the week, giving LSU its first series win and conference sweep of the Bulldogs since 2002 … Threw a complete-game one-hitter in the series finale … Gave up the lone single with one out in the top of the seventh inning breaking a streak of eight and two-thirds hitless innings against Georgia … Allowed only one earned run on the week … The two unearned runs allowed came on an error with two outs in the top of the seventh … With the tying run at the plate, she struck out Megan Wiggins looking to end the game … Recorded 12 strikeouts in her first outing and was one away from her second double-figure strikeout performance with nine in her second outing … Georgia hit only .100 against her in 14 innings … Recorded her 100th strikeout of the season in the first game with Georgia … Is averaging 10.8 strikeouts per seven innings for the season and posted 10.5 strikeouts per seven innings in her two outings last week.

Captured two singles wins and three doubles wins this past weekend. Dessauer only lost two games in singles and a mere seven in doubles. The former walk-on is a perfect 8-0 in dual play, including 3-0 in the conference. Dessauer teamed up with Sebastian Carlsson in doubles for the first time this past weekend. On Sunday, the Tiger tandem was near perfect on the doubles court by picking up two 8-0 victories against Kentucky and Centenary. The LSU pair only gave up 20 points in its two shutout victories on Sunday. Dessauer was also successful off the court this week as he got engaged to his long-time girlfriend Michelle Reynolds.
