BATON ROUGE — For the second straight week the LSU women’s tennis team was listed at No. 21 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released on Tuesday.
Last weekend LSU (8-4, 3-1 SEC) split against two top-20 conference opponents as the Lady Tigers defeated No. 15 Kentucky, 4-3, and fell to No. 20 Vanderbilt, 7-0.
The win over the Wildcats was the sixth against ranked opponents this season. After LSU won the doubles point against Kentucky, No. 18 Megan Falcon won her match on court one while Hannah Robinson won her team-leading 18th match on court five. With the match tied at 3-3, Staten Spencer clinched the victory for LSU in straight sets on court six.
The SEC continues to lead all conferences with seven teams ranked in the top 25. After beating Georgia, 5-2 on Sunday, Florida checks in at No. 3. The Gators are followed by Georgia (6), Vanderbilt (9), Tennessee (20), LSU, Arkansas (22) and Kentucky (24).
Nine SEC teams in all are ranked as South Carolina is listed at No. 33 and Auburn, which LSU beat 4-3, checks in at No. 39.
LSU will take a short break from conference play to take on Prairie View A&M (2-6, 2-1 SWAC) Sunday at 4 p.m. at W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.
