SORRENTO, Fla. — The Red Tail Golf Club continues to yield low scores and although LSU again had one of its top five rounds of the year, the Lady Tigers fell a few spots in a standings board full of red numbered scores.
The Lady Tigers posted a six-over 294 in the second round and stands just eight over par 584 after 36 holes, but stand in 11th place on a leader board that has four teams under par after 36 holes. No. 1 ranked Duke moved into the tournament lead with a second straight round of six-under 282 to stand at 12-under par 564, eight shots ahead of Purdue at four-under 572. Southern California and Florida are tied for third at one-under 575. Teams 5-11 where LSU is are separated by a combined total of seven shots while LSU has an eight-stroke cushion on 12th place.
LSU freshman Megan McChrystal had a good second round posting a one-under par 71 for the 25th-ranked Lady Tigers. Senior Rebecca Kuhn had a one-over 73 with Caroline Martens posting a two-over 74. Amalie Valle rounded out the counting scores with a five over 76. Martens, who had a two-under 70 on Sunday, is in a group tied for 16th at even par 144. McChrystal and Valle are tied for 36th at three-over 147.
“We had another good round but just didn’t have as many birdies as we did on Sunday,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “We are posting good team scores but the rest of the field is shooting some very low numbers at the top. This is certainly one of the top fields in the country at one tournament this year. We want to have another good round Tuesday and then we can look forward to coming home and hosting our LSU Classic this weekend at the University Club.”
The 54-hole event concludes Tuesday with the final 18 holes. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
