Thornton Shares SEC Player of the Week Honor

BATON ROUGE — The top two scorers in the Southeastern Conference, LSU’s Marcus Thornton and Vanderbilt’s Shan Foster, were honored Monday as the final recipients of the year of Player of the Week honors.

The co-winners had two of the biggest single game scoring totals in the last 12 years in the league with Foster scoring 42 hitting his last nine three-point attempts in a Wednesday overtime 86-85 win over Mississippi State. Thornton answered back by equaling his career high of 38 points that included five straight second half treys in the Tigers, 84-75 loss at State.

Thornton his 6-of-12 from three-point range in the 38-point game, his third game in SEC play scoring over 35 points this year. He also notched 27 points, five assists and three steals in the 80-74 win over Alabama on Wednesday.

Foster scored 21 points in Saturday’s loss to Alabama.

For the season, Foster is averaging 20.6 points, 4.9 rpg and 1.7 assists, while Thornton enters Thursday’s SEC Tournament game in which the Tigers play South Carolina at Noon CDT averaging 19.7 points per game, 5.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists.
