BATON ROUGE — The 21st-ranked LSU women’s tennis team looks to remain undefeated in conference play as it travels to Lexington, Ky. to take on 15th-ranked Kentucky at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex at 2 p.m. CT on Friday.
The Lady Tigers (7-3, 2-0 SEC) opened the conference schedule Feb. 29 with a 5-2 win over Alabama and followed that up with a thrilling 4-3 victory over then-No. 29 Auburn on March 2.
“We are really looking forward to playing Kentucky,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “They are a top 15 team, and it is an excellent opportunity for us. We gained some momentum this past weekend, so hopefully we can capitalize on it and keep it going.”
Sophomore Hannah Robinson leads LSU in wins with 17 on the season, and she is one of six players with double-digit wins as No. 18 Megan Falcon has 16, Tiffany Tucker has 13, Mykala Hedberg has 12, Nicole Kantor has 12 and Staten Spencer has 11.
Falcon, a junior from Alameda, Calif., has six ranked wins to her credit and is 8-1 in dual play.
Kentucky (10-3) enters the match at 1-1 in SEC play as the Wildcats defeated then-No. 30 South Carolina, 4-3 before falling to then-No. 7 Florida, 6-1. The Wildcats feature the No. 77-ranked Sarah Woestmann in singles and the 50th-ranked doubles team of Carolina Escamilla and Megan Broderick.
The series history is close as Kentucky leads 16-12 after last season’s 4-3 win over the Lady Tigers in Lexington.
