Clark Earns LSWA Player of the Week Honor

BATON ROUGE — First baseman Matt Clark of LSU and pitcher Hunter Moody of Louisiana-Lafayette were named Tuesday as the Louisiana Sportswriters Association Baseball Players of the Week.

Clark a junior from Fontana, Calif., was named Hitter of the Week as he hit .474 (9-for-19) in five games with one double, five homers, 11 RBI and nine runs. In LSU’s three-game series sweep of Duquesne, Clark batted .667 (8-for-12) with one double, five homers, nine RBI and eight runs.

Clark homered twice in one inning on Saturday, launching two dingers during the Tigers’ 12-run outburst in the third frame against Duquesne. Clark is hitting .385 (10-for-26) on the season with team-highs of five homers and 12 RBI.

Moody, a sophomore left-hander from Clinton, La., was named Pitcher of the Week for the second week in a row. He combined for his second shutout in two starts to open the 2008 season as the southpaw struck out a season-high 10 batters to help the Cajuns snap a five-game losing streak in a 2-0 win Sunday over Southern Mississippi.

Moody scattered four hits in seven innings ? three of Moody’s four hits allowed were bunt singles. Moody has allowed just five hits while striking out a team-high 19 batters in 13 shutout innings. Opponents are batting .119 against the Preseason All-Sun Belt selection.
