‘Perfect’ Clare-Kearney Wins Second SEC Weekly Honor

BATON ROUGE — LSU standout Ashleigh Clare-Kearney was named the SEC Gymnast of the Week on Tuesday by the conference office. The league honor is her second of the season and the fifth of her career.

Clare-Kearney, a junior from Manchester, Conn., posted 10.0 scores on the vault and floor against Michigan State on Feb. 29. It was only the second time in school history a gymnast scored two perfect scores in a single meet.

Additionally, Clare-Kearney won her seventh all-around title of the season against Michigan State when she posted a 39.800. That score ties her for the third-highest all-around score in school history.

En route to the all-around victory, Clare-Kearney captured the meet’s vault and floor titles, along with the beam title, posting a career-high 9.950.

She also had an outstanding meet on March 2 against Centenary when she posted a meet-high 9.950 on the vault. In ten meets this season, Clare-Kearney has won nine vault titles.

Clare-Kearney is currently ranked No. 2 nationally in the all-around and No. 1 nationally on the vault.

She was named the SEC Gymnast of the Week earlier this season after she at least won a share of each event title at Arkansas on Jan. 18.

The Tigers gymnastics team returns to action this Friday when they host the Washington Huskies for a 7 p.m. dual meet at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
