BATON ROUGE — Fresh off a victory over Alabama on Friday, the LSU women’s tennis team will host Auburn (8-2, 1-0 SEC) at noon at W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium on Sunday.
The Lady Tigers (6-3, 1-0 SEC) defeated Alabama, 5-2, and would take an early lead in the SEC West with a victory over Auburn, who defeated Arkansas, 4-3.
“Auburn is very good. Beating Arkansas on the road shows how talented a team they are. We had a very close match with them last year and were fortunate enough to win, so I expect this to be a battle,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said.
Last season LSU defeated Auburn, 4-3, and both teams finished the regular season tied atop the Western division standings.
In the series against Auburn, LSU holds a 22-8 advantage and has won five straight matches since 2003.
Coming into the match, LSU is led by 15th-ranked Megan Falcon who is 16-2 on the season and is riding an 11-match win streak after her victory over Alabama’s Tiffany Welcher, 6-2, 6-3. Falcon will likely face Auburn’s No. 50 Fani Chifchieva who defeated Arkansas’ second-ranked Aurelija Miseviciute, 6-0, 6-4.
Hannah Robinson also enters the match playing well as her win over Bianca Svensson pushed her record to 16-4 overall, including an 8-1 record in dual play.
In doubles, Falcon and Mykala Hedberg lead LSU with a 4-0 record after they posted an 8-3 win on court one against Alabama’s Andrea Brenes and Paulina Bigos.
