BATON ROUGE — Less than two months removed from winning its second national title in five years, LSU will open spring practice on Friday in what will be the first of 15 workouts over the next five weeks for the Tigers.

LSU will have nine practices between Friday and March 13 as the Tigers will then take a week off (March 15-23) for spring break. The Tigers return to practice on March 26 and will conclude the drills the following week with the spring game, which is set for 5 p.m. on April 5 in Tiger Stadium.

LSU returns 44 letterwinners and 12 starters from last year’s team that posted a 12-2 overall mark and claimed both the BCS and Associated Press national titles.

Miles said the Tigers will use the spring to get ready for next year but to also find the players who will have to fill holes left by the departure of some key personnel.

“It’s a different team and to pretend that it’s not is a mistake,” Miles said. “The good fortune of that team is that there are members on that team who have had great experience, who understand what a run is about, who understand about playing in tight quarters, tight games and looking to make plays in those situations.

“It’s going to be a new cast. It’s going to be different coaches, different playmakers, and I promise you some exciting times. I think we are a lot like we were a year ago going into spring practice to be honest with you.”
