Women’s Tennis Starts SEC Play Against Alabama

BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team enters the crucial part of the schedule as it opens the Southeastern Conference slate against Alabama (3-5) at 3 p.m. at W.T. “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium on Friday.

LSU (5-3) enters the match against the Crimson Tide having faced seven ranked opponents in its first eight matches. The Lady Tigers are 4-3 against ranked foes.

In singles, No. 15 Megan Falcon leads the way with a 15-2 record and is a perfect 7-0 in dual play on the season. Falcon is also riding a 10-match win streak dating back to the fall season.

Sophomore Hannah Robinson has won three straight matches to move her record to 15-4, which is second on the team. The Monroe, La., native has been almost unstoppable playing on court five for the Lady Tigers as she boasts a 6-1 record.

The coaches have mixed up the doubles lineup recently, but LSU still features the nation’s No. 56 doubles team in Mykala Hedberg and Staten Spencer who hold a 9-3 record and are 2-0 against ranked opponents. Hedberg has paired up with Falcon in the last three matches, and the duo is undefeated playing at the No. 1 position.

“Alabama is a huge match, especially since it opens SEC play for us,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “Hopefully we will play to our potential because every time we play Alabama it has always been a battle, so we are hoping to come out strong.”

In the series against the Crimson Tide, LSU is 24-9 after last season’s 5-2 victory in Tuscaloosa, but the series has been close as of late. LSU is 3-2 against Alabama over the last five years and 5-3 since 2000.
