BATON ROUGE — The LSU gymnastics team will once again play a role in raising money for breast cancer awareness when they take part in the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority pancake breakfast Saturday morning.

The pancake breakfast will begin at 8 a.m. at the Zeta House on Lakeshore Drive. The team will arrive around 9:30 a.m. to offer their services.

The breakfast comes a week after the gymnastics squad teamed with the Baton Rouge community to donate $30,950 to Foundation56 at the first annual Etta James Memorial Meet. The foundation was created by former LSU linebacker Bradie James in the hope of creating awareness about the disease that will affect one out of eight women during their lifetime.

The Zeta Tau Alpha sorority partnered with the gymnastics team for the meet by accepting donations and handing out pink ribbons and pink shirts, among other prizes.

“Anytime anybody is involved in a breast cancer situation, the Zeta’s try to get involve,” said LSU head coach D-D Breaux. “This pancake breakfast takes on a whole new meaning for us because it is in the wake of what we have done with Foundation56 as well as what women’s basketball has done for breast cancer awareness.”

The team is expected to sign autographs at the fundraiser, as well as serve coffee and pancakes to those who donate money.

“Our team will help out with whatever the Zeta’s need help with,” said Breaux.

People who attend the pancake breakfast can purchase three pancakes and a drink for $5. All of the proceeds will go towards breast cancer awareness, research and education.

“I think it is important to help raise money for breast cancer because breast cancer is a big killer of women these days,” said junior Lauren Klein. “It could happen to anybody. It’s just good to raise money for research in order to help find a cure.”

LSU continues its home stand when they face Michigan State, Friday at 7 p.m. at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
