BATON ROUGE — Sebastian Carlsson of the LSU men’s tennis team was named the Southeastern Conference’s Freshmen of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Carlsson is the first Tiger to win an SEC weekly award this season.
Last Saturday, Carlsson cruised in his match against Matt Bain of Texas A&M, 6-2, 6-0, to help give the Tigers a 5-2 victory over the No. 25 Aggies.
Carlsson owns an outstanding 15-4 record and his 15 wins is a team high. The Sweeden native has won nine out of his last ten matches with all nine wins coming in straight sets.
In other tennis news, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its latest team rankings on Tuesday with the Tigers holding still at No. 18.
The Tigers own a 4-1 record heading into SEC play with all four wins coming at home. LSU will open SEC play on the road when it travels to 20th-ranked Alabama on Friday for a 1 p.m. match.
