BATON ROUGE — Both of the LSU swimming and diving teams will enter the postseason ranked No. 17, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America announced on Friday.
The Lady Tigers (8-3) finished their regular season with a sweep over the Houston Cougars, 240-102, and Rice Owls, 216-119, in a two-day meet in Houston at the end of January.
The LSU men’s squad (6-3) capped off its regular season with an impressive 186-114 win over then No.17-ranked Texas A&M at the LSU Natatorium on Jan. 19.
LSU is one of five Southeastern Conference teams ranked in both polls. Along with LSU, Georgia, Florida, Auburn and Tennessee appear in both polls. Georgia owns the top spot in the women’s poll and Auburn is the highest-ranked conference team in the men’s poll at No. 5.
Since the end of the regular season LSU has been preparing for the SEC Championships, which begin Wednesday, Feb. 20, in Tuscaloosa, Ala. at the Alabama Aquatic Center. The event begins at 10 a.m. Wednesday with the men’s 1-meter preliminaries.
Last year at the SEC Championships, both LSU squads placed sixth with the men’s squad posting 276 points and women’s team scoring 254.5 points.
