BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team is listed at No. 18 in the latest national rankings, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced on Tuesday.
The Tigers (1-1) opened the season this past Wednesday when they hosted the UL-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns. The Tigers dominated their in-state rival by winning all three doubles matches and claiming all the singles matches in straight sets.
LSU struggled in its first road match last Saturday at 12th-ranked Illinois where it fell by a 6-1 mark. Team captain Kevin Dessauer’s win in singles was the loan point for the Tigers.
The Tigers have been listed in the top 20 since Feb. 13, 2007.
Eleven of the 12 Southeastern Conference teams are listed in the current rankings with defending national champion Georgia holding the highest spot at No. 2. After Georgia are Ole Miss (No. 5), Alabama (No. 10), Tennessee (No. 14), Florida (No. 15), Vanderbilt (No. 29), Auburn (No. 39), Kentucky (No. 52), Mississippi State (No. 53) and South Carolina (No. 59).
LSU returns to action next Sunday when it host a double header with Southern Miss at noon and Southern at 5 p.m.
