What is Foundation56?

Foundation56 was established by former LSU football great and current Dallas Cowboys defensive star, Bradie James, to help promote breast cancer awareness and the early detection of the disease through screening opportunities for women in the Baton Rouge metro area. James’ lost his mother, Etta, to the disease in February 2002. For more information on Foundation56 visit www.Foundation56.org.

“My life was changed by that experience,” said James of his mother’s battle with the disease. “It fuels my drive to give and to do for others. My passion runs deep. Foundation56 is my way of truly making a difference and that difference is saving lives.”

Wanting to support James and his cause, LSU head gymnastics coach D-D Breaux elected to use one of her team’s meets as a platform to help raise money for Foundation56.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to have this phenomenal event that brings together such dynamic forces in Foundation56, the Bengal Belles and LSU,” said Breaux. “For us to be able to join forces to fight breast cancer, and wage that war right here in our community, makes this event truly special.”

To encourage fan support at the Inaugural Etta James Memorial Meet all general admission tickets will be sold for $1. Tickets can be purchased online at www.LSUsports.net or over the phone by calling 225-578-2184.

Breaux and LSU are challenging their fans for the cause.

“Our goal is to get 7,500 fans at the meet,” said Breaux. “If we can do that I certainly believe we will be able to reach our goal of donating $20,000 to Foundation56.”

At the meet, fans will have the opportunity to make donations to Foundation56. All donations will be accepted with gifts being provided at certain donation levels.

Fans who contribute $1 will receive a pink ribbon pin. A $5 contribution gets a pink Foundation56 bracelet. $10 merits a Foundation56 pink t-shirt and a $20 donation will get a pink or purple feather boa.

In addition, a silent auction will be set up on the concourse of the PMAC. All proceeds from the silent auction will also benefit Foundation56.
