TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — LSU’s eighth-ranked women’s basketball team looks to keep rolling when they invade Coleman Coliseum on Thursday at 6 p.m. CST to take on Alabama.
The Lady Tigers (18-3, 7-0 SEC) have won nine straight games, including wins over South Carolina and at Florida last week. LSU is tied with Tennessee on top of the Southeastern Conference standings.
The Crimson Tide (8-14, 1-6 SEC) have dropped six straight games since opening the SEC schedule with a victory over South Carolina. Alabama sits on the bottom of the league standings in the tie with the Gamecocks.
“There is no doubt that Alabama will bring it’s A game on Thursday,” LSU head coach Van Chancellor. “Team get up when they play LSU and we know that we will have to play with energy and enthusiasm from the tip.”
LSU brings the SEC’s top defense to Coleman Coliseum. The Lady Tigers have held opponents to 49.3 points per game and a 34.5 shooting percentage. Offensively, LSU has picked it up in league play, having scored the second most point per game at 75.0 a contest against SEC opponents.
Sylvia Fowles, who is expected to return to action after missing most of the second half of Sunday’s win a Florida, leads the Lady Tigers with 16.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. The 6-6 center has also made 60.7 percent of her shots from the floor.
Quianna Chaney, who has scored in double figures in each of the last 12 games for LSU, has scored 14.9 points per game this season.
Dedrea Magee leads Alabama with 8.7 points per game.
This will be the 44th meeting between the two programs. LSU owns a 27-16 series lead, including eight straight wins. The Crimson Tide have won 11 of the 20 meetings in Tuscaloosa.
Following the game, LSU returns home to host Georgia on Sunday at 1 p.m. CST in the 12th annual Pack the PMAC presented by the Lady Tiger Depot. The Lady Tigers have also teamed with the WBCA’s “Think Pink” breast cancer awareness campaign and will wear uniforms trimmed in pink on Sunday.
